On July 22 and 23, 2019, the United Nations and INTOSAI organized the ‘Leadership and Stakeholders’ Meeting’ in New York together. The event focused on monitoring the implementation of the sustainable development objectives. The Department of Social and Economic Affairs (UNDESA) played a crucial role. The goal was to emphasize the impact of audits on the execution of Sustainable Development Goals, from now on SDG.
The Supreme Audit Institution of Curaçao participated in this meeting. This meeting offered the participants the opportunity to draw up an inventory/balance sheet. In three years, experience was obtained when executing the Effectiveness Research regarding the readiness of the Governments to implement the SDG.
In discussions, it was considered how the experience gained can lead to the monitoring of the implementation of the specific SDG goals in the future. The meeting also targeted the facilitating of an informative dialogue between the participating Supreme Audit Institutions and interested parties regarding the contribution of Supreme Audit Institutions and External Auditors to the SDG evaluation mechanism at different levels.
